Why is a button greyed out?
Chromecast: loading a link…
AirPlay: loading a link…
Both devices on the same Wi-Fi, and the link public — the TV loads it itself, so no login, VPN or expired token links.
No TV browser handy? The Link & QR code button works on any screen once a link is loaded.

Good to know.
Direct links only. This works with links that point straight at a video or audio file (.mp4, .webm, .mov, .mkv, .mp3) or an HLS stream (.m3u8). Web pages like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu or Disney+ aren’t video files and are copy-protected, so cast those from inside their own app or site.
The TV loads the link itself. With Chromecast, the TV fetches the video straight from the source, so the link has to be public: no login, VPN or expired token. HLS streams also need CORS enabled on the server.
Browser support. Chromecast needs Chrome or Edge. AirPlay needs Safari. The link and QR option works anywhere.
TV codes. For smart TVs, Fire TV, Xbox and anything with a web browser: open goodexpectation.com/cast/tv on the TV, then enter its 4-letter code here. This is the one option where the link passes through our server, and it is deleted after two hours.
Private. With Chromecast, AirPlay or a share link, nothing is uploaded or stored on our servers. Recent links stay in this browser only.
